Fire detection systems for extraction and dedusting systems

Our L+M AG sales team for extraction systems brings the safety-relevant topic of fire detection systems into the discussion right from the first consultation, taking into account and complying with applicable laws, standards and regulations.

ARE FIRE SOURCES PRESENT?

In discussions with the customer, we at L+M AG evaluate possible sources of fire in order to eliminate the risk of fire as far as possible by means of appropriate dust collection.

If this is not possible or does not meet the high safety requirements, the following options are available:

  • Mechanical pre-separator systems that effectively remove ignition sources such as sparks or hot particles from the extracted air flow before the dust extraction system.
  • Spark extinguishing systems that detect the high-energy particles in the pipe and extinguish them there.

FIRE PROTECTION FOR FINE DUSTS

However, this is not always possible with particularly fine dusts or certain processes.

Passive fire detection systems

The simplest solution here is to use so-called passive fire detection systems such as a dry extinguishing connection, i.e. a dry pipe in the building that is supplied with extinguishing water by the fire department via external connections in the event of a fire.

A corresponding fire protection sign shows the location of the dry extinguishing connection:

Active fire alarm systems

Or active fire alarm systems are installed that are automatically triggered by adapted sensors – such as infrared and temperature sensors or smoke detectors.

Depending on the process, water, gaseous agents such as argon, carbon dioxide CO2, nitrogen, foam or powder are used to extinguish a fire in the extraction system, dust extraction system or filter system.

CONSIDER FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS IN THE PROJECT

  • When purchasing a new extraction and filter system, a holistic fire protection concept including suitable fire alarm systems should be developed.
  • Innovative fire detection systems ensure that fires are fought as early as possible to prevent damage to property and personal injury.
  • By detecting fires at an early stage, time can be gained to take countermeasures as quickly as possible.
